As I look back over the past eight weeks and begin to think
about working with children and families who come from very different and
diverse backgrounds I hope that I can offer an environment that has trusting
relationships, love, compassion, patience, respect, and consideration for all
children and families that I come in contact with. This course has really touched
my heart in so many ways. One hope that I have when I think about working
with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds is that each child
and family is provided with the services they need in order for their children
to be successful in school and within the community. I also hope
that each child will receive a fair and equal education regardless of their
social identities.
A goal of mines when it comes to issues of diversity,
equity, and social justice is to see anti-bias education for children, parents and
all education people who deal directly with children and families. I think that
if better understanding of culture and diversity was to happen, better
communication will transpire between everyone.
I would like to thank all my colleagues because I have
learned something from everyone. I enjoyed reading the discussions, blogs and
learning about how others have dealt with situations similar to me, it made
this experience somewhat easier.
Catherine,
ReplyDeleteIt has been a challenging eight weeks, I am glad that I got to share it with you. You have great hopes and goals for early childhood professionals.
Have a safe and relaxing holiday.

This course also touched my heart for a variety of ways. It also made me personally reflect on the person I am today and why. Education is critical when striving for diversity, equity, and social justice. The more a person knows the more likely they are to be open and understanding to every child’s differences. I also feel like I learned so much and I thank you in return.
ReplyDeleteThroughout this course I have learned so many valuable lessons! We must ensure children are accepted for their differences.
ReplyDeleteGood luck in all of your future endeavors!! I hope to have you in class again!
Blessings,
Susan
I think you hit the "nail on the head", better communication for everyone is the key. Communication between early childhood providers and families creates the foundation for building trust and creating a true support system for a child. It can be that much more challenging if we don't allow ourselves to be open to families who are "different" than us. I believe more training and p.d. needs to be offered on equity and diversity. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine, I agree totally with the environment that you hope to provide for children, it has all the requirements to allow them to grow into confident, productive members of society. I also believe that anit-bias education is important for all stakeholders. I am amazed by how much I learned during this course - everyone who works with children needs to learn how deliver care and education that is unbiased and accepting of diversity.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your posts and comments! I wish you all the best as you continue your studies. Delores
